Welcome to Matlock Counselling

What can our Counselling service offer?

Are you ready to explore new strategies to learn about past or present influences on your life?

Talking about issues that trouble you with someone who has the time to listen can bring a sense of relief. Counselling can help to bring a greater understanding of how you can change.

Counselling can often bring a sense of relief and understanding that can alleviate symptoms of mental and physical stress and discomfort.

In my counselling sessions I will offer you the opportunity to talk about past or present difficulties in a confidential, professional and non-judgemental environment. This can enable you to gain a different perspective on your situation.

My Counselling experience

I am an experienced counsellor and have worked for 15 years with people of all ages to manage/understand their feelings. Counselling can help with grief and loss, anger, relationship difficulties, feelings of depression and anxiety, trauma and abuse, self confidence.

My Approach to Counselling

I use a person centred counselling approach and work in a way that supports, nurtures and enables you to make your own decisions about your life. I also have experience of using other therapeutic approaches which include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Gestalt and Solution-Focused techniques.

I offer short or longer term counselling support.

I am registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work to their ethical standards. For further information see bacp.co.uk

Types of Counselling

Person Centred Counselling

This approach encourages clients to take the lead in discussions so that in the process they will discover their own solutions. I regard clients as being the ”Expert” on their own situation.

You know better than anyone else what you would like to change. Through discussing your situation in an open and non judgemental way, with someone who is outside your circle of family or friends, it is possible to explore ways you can put those changes into practice.

EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a therapeutic approach that has been shown to relieve the distressing effects of traumatic experiences. This includes situations such as childhood bullying , car accidents, rape, abusive relationships.

Solution Focused Practice (SF)

This approach focuses on exploring what you would like to change in your current situation, what you are already doing and have done in the past that might contribute to your “best hopes” being realised.

For further information see – solutionfocused.net

Gestalt Therapy

This approach helps you to focus your self- awareness in the “here and now”. This can help you understand your thoughts, feelings , behaviour and patterns of relating to others, which can bring about new perspectives and enable you to change how you interact with other people. Using this approach can be a useful way to build self confidence and enable you to address issues of concern as well as assisting you to live life to your fullest potential.

Gestalts focus on the present moment can allow a lively, spontaneous and creative approach to addressing your current situation.
